Options -> Configure: Email

In order to send email notifications, PTFB Pro must have access to an SMTP email server. This can be local (on your network) or on the Internet (assuming you have an always-on connection). This page is used to tell PTFB Pro how to access your outgoing email server, and can also be used to disable email notifications across all your targets.

The details you need to enter are very similar to those required when setting up an account in a typical email program such as Outlook Express. Indeed, you may find that your email program is a useful reference when filling in this page.

Outgoing (SMTP) Server

Enter the address of your SMTP server here. The address can be a four-part IP address (e.g. 127.0.0.1) or an Internet-style name (e.g. smtp.myisp.com)

You can also change the port number used for SMTP communications. In the vast majority of cases you'll leave this at the default value of 25, but it's there if you need it.

Authentication

As a protection against spammers, many Internet Service Providers require you to login before sending an email. If that's the case with your SMTP server, tick the "My server requires authentication" box and enter your login name and password.

In some cases, your ISP may also require that logins be secure (encrypted) - if so tick the box marked "Log on using secure password authentication".

Sender Details

Also as a defense against spammers, SMTP servers typically refuse to send emails unless they have what appears to be a valid sender email address. Obviously you're not going to reply to any email notifications that PTFB Pro sends you(!), but you should nevertheless enter an email address.

If you have any concerns about entering your email address into PTFB Pro, please be assured that PTFB Pro contains no spyware or adware whatsoever, and does not transmit any information over the Internet (other than the emails that you configure it to send).

Recipient

All email notifications that PTFB Pro generates will be sent to this one address. Please take care to enter the correct address, and do not enter the address of any individual who may not wish to receive the notifications.

Test

After you've entered all the necessary settings, it's wise to test them to make sure there are no problems. Click the "Test..." button to send a sample notification to your nominated address.
